We are pleased to announce that Community Music School has selected Sean Riedy, piano student of Dr. David Saturen, as the first recipient of the Martha Maletz Scholarship.  The Scholarship honors the School’s founder, Martha Maletz, who provided for a scholarship in her will. Martha passed away in 2019 at age 96, and her adult children donated funds and have established an annual scholarship in her name. The Maletz Scholarship honors a CMS student of impressive merit and extraordinary potential whose family also has financial need. This is a full scholarship that covers the cost of Sean’s music education at CMS for the rest of the 2021-2022 CMS school year.

“The creation and experience of music is one of the most incredible blends of human intelligence and creativity,” said Sean.  “I highly appreciate the School’s decision to grant me this scholarship, and will continue to work hard to live up to my potential.”

Sean is a senior at the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, focusing on piano technique.  He has been studying piano with Dr. David Saturen at CMS for more than two years.  Piano is his main instrument, but he has also studied voice and cello.  He plans to learn how to play many more instruments, compose orchestral pieces, and study music theory in college, with the goal of becoming a professor of music.

We congratulate Sean on this great accomplishment!
