SPECIAL RELEASE: At midnight on February 14, the Griffin Woodard Quartet released its rendition of the Rodgers & Hart classic “My Funny Valentine” on Bandcamp only. In addition to this single, the full album “The Precious One” is now available in CD or digital form.
Woodard’s second album, Precious One, is a captivating collection of five tracks of beloved standards, such as “My Funny Valentine,” arranged by Woodard, “As Time Goes By,” “It Could Happen to You,” and “Sentimental Mood”. The one original work, “Precious One”, was composed and arranged by drummer Hugh Kline.
In Precious One, each member breathes life into both the collection of beloved standards and the original composition. Griffin Woodard, bass clarinetist, Miles Gilbert, bassist, and Hugh Kline, drummer are all alumni of the Oberlin Conservatory Jazz Studies Department.
