In the fall of 1981, Martha Maletz, a determined visionary, and four other remarkable women founded CMS. Martha Maletz passed away at the age of 96 in late March 2019.
Two months before her death, the current Director, Jeff Reed, was fortunate to be able to give Martha a tour of the wonderful new home of CMS. She was clearly moved to see and experience, in her words, “what has become of my baby!” Martha had provided in her will for a significant gift to CMS to be used to establish the Martha L. Maletz Scholarship Fund to assist students based on both their talent and need.
In addition, several generations of her family have given generously to name the largest studio at CMS in her memory. Studio 12 will now be named “The Founder’s Studio” in memory of Martha.
