CMS teacher Katie Mitchell performed on contra-alto clarinet in “Legendary Composers” with the Commonwealth University of PA – Mansfield Concert Wind Ensemble on the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage of Carnegie Hall (in New York City) on May 23, 2025.  The lineup also included the Western Illinois University Wind Ensemble; Mike Fansler and Matt Thomas, Conductors; Jeff Brown, Piano; Antiphonal Brass from CUPA Mansfield University; Adam Brennan, Conductor; and Joseph Murphy, Saxophone, who performed works by Dr. Adam F. Brennan (director of the MU Concert Wind Ensemble), Maslanka, Copland, Bernstein, Stravinsky, Grainger, and Respighi.

As an alumna of Mansfield University (now known as Commonwealth University – Mansfield), Katie regularly performs with the MU Concert Wind Ensemble.  She also performed on clarinet with the Mansfield University Marching Band in the 2024 London New Year’s Day Parade.  One of the oldest wind ensembles in the country, the MU Concert Wind Ensemble is a select group of approximately 48 woodwind, brass, and percussion players who are both current and former students of the University.  The ensemble performs on and off campus, and on tours and at regional conventions and special events, in addition to recording and producing a compact disc of select literature each year.

Katie holds a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education from Mansfield University, with a concentration in violin.  She teaches violin, viola, cello, double bass, clarinet, and saxophone at the CMS Berks studio at Goggleworks Center for the Arts in Reading, PA. She is also a music teacher and orchestra director in the Reading School District.

We congratulate Katie on this special performance!
