We are pleased to announce that two CMS students were nominated to participate in the PMEA District 10 Elementary String Orchestra Fest that was held on Tuesday, May 13.

Laina Roque Hernandez (left photo, far right), violin student of Sunny Murthy is in 5th grade at Sheridan Elementary, in the Allentown School District.  Laina began private lessons at CMS in August of 2024. Sunny says “I started teaching Laina this school year. She is an enthusiastic violin student, a beautiful singer, and a very polite young lady. I truly enjoy teaching her!”

Rene Kim (inset photo, top right), violin student of Carolyn Gaul is 6th grade at Springhouse Middle School, in the Parkland School District.  Rene was selected as 1st chair violin and says that this honor meant a lot to her. She has been studying at CMS since January of 2020 and recently was awarded a Schadt String Scholarship at this year’s Gala Recital.

The Fest is open to 5th and 6th grade students in at least their second year of playing.  This year’s concert was held at Notre Dame High School, with our own CMS teacher Chris Klump as the host director.  The Guest Orchestra Conductor was Douglas Bolasky.  Learn more about PMEA District 10 Elementary Fests.

Congratulations, Laina & Rene!
