SPECIAL RELEASE:  At midnight on February 14, the Griffin Woodard Quartet released its rendition of the Rodgers & Hart classic “My Funny Valentine” on Bandcamp only.  In addition to this single, the full album “The Precious One” is now available in CD or digital form.

Woodard’s second album, Precious One, is a captivating collection of five tracks of beloved standards, such as “My Funny Valentine,” arranged by Woodard, “As Time Goes By,” “It Could Happen to You,” and “Sentimental Mood”. The one original work, “Precious One”, was composed and arranged by drummer Hugh Kline.

In Precious One, each member breathes life into both the collection of beloved standards and the original composition. Griffin Woodard, bass clarinetist, Miles Gilbert, bassist, and Hugh Kline, drummer are all alumni of the Oberlin Conservatory Jazz Studies Department. Cameron Campbell, pianist, studies jazz piano at the Manhattan School of Music. Their mentors are illustrious, professional artists with successful careers in jazz performance and training.

The two-hour studio session garnered 5 first-take tracks. The journey on the 5 tracks from “My Funny Valentine” to “Sentimental Mood” captures the extraordinary dexterity and ingenuity of the quartet. The resplendent display of each band member’s self-expression consistently demands the listener’s undivided attention.

The Griffin Woodard Quartet is a highly skilled band of young musicians dedicated to deeply connecting with audiences through individual and collaborative artistic expression. The quartet’s fellowship and solidarity faithfully integrate each member’s distinctive voice into a radiant tapestry. The group routinely evokes a deep emotional response from listeners by offering their whole selves through each note.
