Matthew Brandle (far right), a piano and voice student of Kathy Anthony at CMS, expanded his theatrical repertoire as “Gangster # 2” in Moravian Academy’s spring musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone” from February 28-March 2. This “show within a show” satirizes 1920s musical theatre as it tells the story of a man who, while listening to a record of a fictional 1928 musical, relives the story, and the characters come to life in his apartment. Matthew is a senior at Moravian Academy, where he performed the role of “Uncle Fester” in the spring 2024 production of “The Addams Family – A New Musical Comedy.” Watch highlights of “The Drowsy Chaperone” on WFMZ’s Freddy Awards performances page or on The Freddy Awards’ Facebook page.
Matthew will also play the lead role of “Christopher Boone” in the Moravian Academy Upper School Spring Drama, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” This poignant and thought-provoking play, adapted from Mark Haddon’s novel, follows the story of Christopher Boone, a neurodivergent 15-year-old boy. He discovers a neighbor’s dog, Wellington, dead. Determined to solve the mystery of the dog’s death, Christopher embarks on an investigation that leads him to uncover deeper family secrets and confront challenges. The play explores themes of perception, truth, and the complexities of human relationships, all while showcasing Christopher’s unique perspective on the world. The play invites the audience to experience the world through Christopher’s eyes, highlighting both the struggles and triumphs of navigating life through a different lens. This show is recommended for ages 13+. Read more.
