Art in the Park

at Allentown’s West Park

Join us for a fun day of art and music!  Our neighbors at the West Park Civic Association’s “Art in the Park” 2024: Celebrating 49 Years of Creativity and Community event on Saturday, September 14, from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, in beautiful West Park, at 16th & Linden Streets in Allentown, just one block north of CMS.

Established in 1971, AITP is one of the Lehigh Valley’s premier cultural touchstones. It celebrates the work of artists from Lehigh Valley and beyond in Allentown’s oldest park. Dozens of artists exhibit and sell original ceramics, drawings, glass, jewelry, paintings, photography, sculpture, weaving, and art made from recycled or repurposed materials.  Artist demonstrations, food and drink from various vendors, and live musical performances in the bandshell are offered throughout the day.  This year’s event features a record-breaking 130 artist exhibitors, 18 arts-related community groups, and 10 musical performances.

Student Performances:  We will feature CMS student and teacher performances in the bandshell from 11:00-11:50 AM.  To audition to perform at Art in the Park, please discuss this opportunity with your teacher.  Given the strict time guidelines for this performance, interested students (with the approval of their teachers) must submit an audition video or audio recording of their performance.  The teacher must review and approve the student’s performance and then submit the Google Form with the recording attached before Tuesday, September 3.  Students accepted to perform will be notified by Friday, September 6.

Petting Zoo Volunteers: CMS will offer our “Musical Instrument Petting Zoo” and information booth, near the bandshell, from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  We are in need of a few volunteers to help set up our tent/table at 9:15 am, and staff the table for a few hours during the event, which runs from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. You do not need to know how to play all the instruments, but we hope you will bring your passion for music and the good work we do here at CMS.  SIGN UP for a volunteer shift by emailing our Assistant Director, Lisa Kulp, at lisa@cmslv.org.
