Dear Friends of CMS,

Thirty-five years ago, in the fall of 1982, Martha Maletz and four other remarkable music teachers launched lessons for students at Community Music School. As we approach the end of the year and close our celebration of this special 35th anniversary, I am reaching out to you and other long-time friends of CMS to ask for your financial support and share some very exciting news with you.

As a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) organization, CMS can continue to realize its mission only with charitable gifts from generous donors and friends like you. Your support helps CMS offer high-quality music education to all interested students, regardless of their background, age, ability, or financial circumstances. All of our students benefit from the charitable support of our donors, which include individuals, businesses, and foundations. Without this charitable support, a 30-minute music lesson would cost a CMS student $66 instead of $33, and clearly would be unaffordable. In addition, CMS remains as committed as ever to making an excellent music education accessible to those who cannot afford our modest lesson fees. In our 2016-17 year, thanks to you, we were able to award an impressive $80,437 in need-based financial aid to students from low-income families. 56% of our enrolled students receive need-based aid. CMS cannot fund this level of opportunity by ourselves; we really need your generous support to continue to fund high-quality music education.
As an arts organization with a lifetime presence in Allentown, CMS is excited to announce that we will be moving in late spring 2018 to our new home at 1544 Hamilton Street, across from the Scottish Rite Cathedral. The former Lehigh Valley Club building is being renovated and reconfigured just for CMS. The two-acre site has abundant free parking and is convenient for all our students and their families. We have signed a long-term lease and look forward to expanding our programming, with more space at a lower occupancy cost. However, as expected, CMS will face additional expenses related to the move and other costs to outfit the new studio spaces. Please consider enhancing your charitable gift this year to help CMS make this transformational move a reality.
I hope you agree that CMS is a valuable asset to the community, and as such needs to remain a fixture in the Lehigh Valley and Berks County. Thank you for making a generous, tax-deductible gift to CMS using the form below. On behalf of our students, teachers, and staff, I thank you for supporting quality music education at Community Music School.
Jeff Reed, Director
